do tell me more about this lunar eclipse what’s up w it
Astronomically it’s a big deal because it’s going to last for a few hours, which is a lot longer than most eclipses last (plus it’s a blood moon!) but in a spiritual/astrological sense, it’s important because during a lunar eclipse, we essentially experience an entire moon cycle in the span of one day. The moon will be completely full, New, and full again within the eclipse. A lot of people may be experiencing a ton of tension in their lives right now; overly intense emotions, feeling lost or out of touch with their lives, meaningless drama and conflict with friends and family, or just a general sense of “nothing is right and everything is falling apart.” This is because right now, the universe wants to push and burn through all of the stagnant, unused, pent up energy being held within our lives. This eclipse won’t just start a new chapter, but for many of us it will begin an entirely new way of life. We’re clearing out the old to make room for an incredible array of new things to come! At the start of the leo season, we’re gearing up to leave behind what no longer helps us, and beginning to search for and find what will. If you’ve been wanting to quit an addiction, leave a relationship, change career paths or take up an intimidating new passion, this is the time to do it! If you’ve been waiting for a sign to do something big and bold, the full moon and it’s eclipse will provide a great wave of change on which to do so. That’s just what I’m feeling anyways
In all seriousness, at some point when we started, we all have picked a candle, (usually in a colour that mirrors our intent), we held it tight, we wished upon it (or vigorously screamed at it), made our statement towards our Gods and then we lit it. Your most basic candle spell really, you can’t go wrong with that.
But what if you want to take it to the next level? What if you want to give your candle spell an oomph? Something more than intent?
Ceremonial magick can seem daunting to the beginner witch or magician; all these rituals and and the LBRPs and the Watchtowers and the Middle Pillars… But we can extract techniques from these complicated rituals and adapt them for a middle ground. Keep a structure, a formula, and complete it. A ritual.
But how would you go about making a candle spell into a ritual, while still keeping it easy to follow?
Your basic candle spell, has one correspondence to your intent. The
colour. Red for aggression (or lust), green for money, light blue for
healing and so on. What if we incorporated more correspondences to that
intent, like Planetary days and hours?
Let’s give it a shot then. For all intents and purposes, I will be “performing” a money candle spell.
Money and business are in the realm of Mercury. The day of Mercury is, ofcourse, Wednesday. An assosiative colour of Mercury is yellow or orange. I will look up on the deities that are associated with Mercury. For my own tradition I will be conferring with the God Hermes. That means I will be using symbols that are associated with Hermes. Like the caduceus staff, the symbol of Mercury, or the winged sandals.
Of course, if you are following a different tradition, you will implement symbols and Deity/Entity names accordingly. Christian witches or magicians for example, can use symbols of Raphael and Godnames, like AGLA, ADONAY and TETRAGRAMMATON.
I will use an app on my phone to check when is the Planetary Hour of Mercury on that Wednesday.
First and foremost, (about 10-15 minutes before the Hour of Mercury) we will banish and cleanse the shit out of our space and altar. Yes we have an altar. A stool, a shelf, anything with a surface big enough to hold a candle. We will banish and cleanse it. That way, the only energies present will be those needed for our spell. Nothing else.
How do we banish? That depends on your practice. Light some incense, walk in circles and pray. Light a small herbal twig, pray and quench it in water. Then sprinkle around with the water to cleanse the room and your altar.
Then we will take a piece of paper and draw a pentagram on it. The pentagram will work as a focus for the energies. Around the pentagram we will draw the symbols that we have researched, along with the Deity’s name.
On that pentagram, we will place our candle, hold it and meditate our intent upon it, for as long as we’d like.
And then we will light it. Once the hour of Mercury is done, we will blow out the candle, and then we will cleanse our space again.
This is a “basic” formula for a more ceremonial candle spell. Depending on your intent youcan adapt the correspondences accordingly. Once you are familiar with this form of candle magick, you can add to it as you see fit. Perhaps you can anoint the candle with an herbal oil that is also associated with the intended planet, or even place crystals around the pentagram. Why not carve symbols on the anointed candle itself? Why not meditate while the candle is burning?
To reiterate:
On the correct Planetary day and hour, we cleanse our space. We cast our spell, and cleanse again.
Obviously this is only a skeleton of what a complete ceremonial ritual could or should be, but its a start. We all start somewhere. And we just have to put one foot after the other…
I hope this is some help to those witches that just want that extra “something” in their spells.
A spell jar for endless nights, sunny days and a summer full of joy and fun. A wordless vow to make this the best summer ever.
You will need:
Sunflower petals, or 1 full sunflower head (can be substituted by your favourite flower)
Daisies
Grass
Clear Quartz
Sunstone or citrine (if you have it)
Pen and paper
A jar
To be performed in the later half of May on a sunny day. Add and remove any item you would like, but try to at least keep your favourite flower and the daisies.
Write all of you hopes, feelings and wishes for the coming summer on a piece of paper. Plans for meeting friends, plans for feeling happy, etc. Put it in the jar. Put the rest of the objects in the jar. Hold the jar in both hands and visualise your happiest summer memories and will your energy into the jar.
Leave the jar in sunlight for 3 days to charge. After that, leave everything inside until the plants look dead, then clean it out. You can keep the crystals and carry them with you on summer days out for further good vibes.
I made this necklace for my sister, @positivethoughtstoday, who needs to be able to tell when people are bullshitting her at work. You could also use this to make a tiny witch’s bottle you carry in your purse or your pocket, or a large bottle you keep at your desk or office. It can be any size you want.
Components
· Thistle spines (you could also use pins, nails, needles, or other sharp objects) · Moss (the kind that grow on really old evergreens. you could also use lichen that grow on old trees. the important thing is to harvest it respectfully from an old, wise tree that has seen many seasons pass.) · Sea glass (any color will do) · White ritual candle · Almond Oil, Palmarosa Oil, Sage Oil, or Tea Tree Oil · Glass Bottle
Spell
Call in any energies or deities you work with and ask them to let their wisdom flow through you.
Anoint the ritual candle with the oil with your projective hand (your right hand if you’re right-handed), and light the candle. As you ready each item to place in the bottle, meditate on the unending strength of wisdom and everything the universe has seen.
Add the moss to the bottle, and chant:
May this moss carry with it the wisdom of the timeworn evergreens it devoured.
Add the sea glass to the bottle, and chant:
Like the sea tossed this glass, may it wear down the deception of sharp tongues with the power of the tides.
Add the thistle spines (carefully!) to the bottle, and say:
May this thistle poke holes in lies, falsehood, and guile.
Cork the bottle, hold it in your projective hand, and chant:
May this bottle’s bearer easily tell truth from tale. And so it shall be.
Let the ritual candle burn all the way down. Thank the universe/deities/energies for its wisdom.
Why not? You’re tried everything else. You’ve asked nicely. You’ve been patient, willing to compromise. You’ve been so relentlessly reasonable–and so fed up!–you feel like a pushover. Now you’ve been shut out altogether. So, try a curse! It’s cheaper than a lawsuit and more civilized than punching someone out. (And you probably won’t have to explain it to the police).

To protect yourself, wear or carry coral, amethyst, diamond, pearl, ruby, carnelian, peridot, turquoise or sapphire, a tortoiseshell bracelet, a necklace of rowan berries, oak or rowan leaves.
For safe travel place a sprig of mint in your wallet, handbag, luggage, or glove compartment. Wear white clothing and turquoise and moonstone jewelry. And don’t forget, 55 is a lucky travel number.
To protect your space, place pine needles on the floor; twigs of papaya over the door; rosemary in the corners of a room; a pair of open scissors over the front door to cut off negativity from the outside. Place lavender near your pillow to bring sweet dreams; a full glass of water by your bed each night to collect negativity from the room; a cluster of acorns on the front door; St. John’s Wort over doorways on a midsummer’s eve; plum branches over doors and windows.
If you’re in a park or walking down a tree-lined street, try standing under an oak tree or knocking on a willow tree.
Use your imagination to deflect negative energy. Envision your body as being shielded by a magick circle of pure white light; mirrors that face outward, away from you; a force field; a dense hedge; angel wings.
S.O.S! Hazel sprigs and moonstones both have magickal properties that protect against shipwreck.
Fill the snail shell with salt, cascarilla powder, and anything else that symbolizes home or protection for you. Light the candle and seal the opening of the snail shell with wax. Keep the charm on your altar or over your front door frame.
Smelling salts have been around since the time of the Roman Empire and have traditionally used to revive someone who has fainted. Recently, the aromatherapy world has taken the concept and expanded it to include other uses. We make these aromatherapeutic salts to soothe anxiety and calm nerves.
